Chiseling bear faces into fence posts, sanding until the wood smells like honey, and burning pyrography lines with a hot pen is like releasing spirits from timber. My workshop apron has sawdust in every pocket. I can’t stand when a knot in the wood splits the carving—last month a fox’s nose cracked off mid-smile, and I had to glue it back with wood putty
